UC Davis Places Fourth In Petite Final At Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. - UC Davis was timed in 7 minutes, 3.5 seconds on Sunday morning, finishing fourth in the petite finals of the varsity eight competition at the Knecht Cup, hosted by Villanova at Cooper River.

The Aggies finished second in their preliminary race on Saturday before taking third in their semifinal heat later in the day. Those finishes advanced UC Davis to Sunday's petite final where they took fourth.

Boston College won the petite final in 6:52.7 with Georgetown placing second in 6:56.7 and Kansas third in 7:00.0. UC Davis, Buffalo and Wisconsin's lightweight were in a tight battle for fourth but the Aggies crossed first. Buffalo was timed in 7:04.2 with Wisconsin following in 7:06.4.

Massachusetts won the grand final in 6:43.8 while Colgate captured the third final in 6:57.7. Nearly 30 boats were entered in the varsity eight competition.

Times during the regatta improved significantly on Sunday after conditions led to times above eight minutes on Saturday over the 2,000-meter course.

UC Davis returns to action on Saturday when it battles Sacramento State for the Jean Runyon Cup at Lake Natoma.
