REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - UC Davis' second varsity eight beat UCLA by nearly 13 seconds on Saturday morning at the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores, but the Bruins' women's rowing team earned wins in three other races.

The Aggies' second varsity eight covered the 2,000-meter course in 7 minutes, 15 seconds, with UCLA finishing the dual in 7:27.7. While the Bruins won the remaining races, the second novice eight race was also close with UCLA crossing the line in 7:30.6, edging UC Davis in a race that was tight from the beginning. The Aggies were timed in 7:33.4.

UCLA opened the dual against UC Davis with a win the varsity eight matchup. The Bruins were clocked in 6:59.0, while the Aggies came across in 7:14.1. UC Davis also dropped a head-to-head against UCLA in the novice eight race after a boat-stopping crab by the Aggies in the final piece ended a tightly contested dual. The Bruins finished in 7:07.6 while UC Davis was timed in 7:22.3.

UC Davis returns to action on WIRA Championships on May 3 at Lake Natoma.
