RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The UC Davis women's rowing varsity eight made its final preparations for the upcoming Western Independent Rowing Association Championships by posting a season-best time in an 11-second victory over Creighton on Sunday morning at Lake Natoma.

The Aggies, who were coming off a dual loss at Gonzaga last weekend, crossed the finish line of the 2,000-meter race in 6 minutes, 48.3 seconds, well ahead of Creighton which finished in 6:59.3. UC Davis' time surpassed its previous best of 6:58.24 by 10 seconds.

"I felt we didn't have very good practices going into and out of the Gonzaga dual, but the last three days we kind of clicked," said varsity coach Carissa Adams. "I think we're making progress and are where we want to be."

Rowing in the varsity eight on Sunday were Kari Harris, Cassie Drotman, Becky Anderson, Marisa O'Brien, Kelli Kramer, Kalie Benson, Elisabeth Patterson, Analiese Zoller and coxswain Katie Borg, the same crew which led UC Davis to a win in the petite final of the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic at the start of the month.

Creighton and UC Davis also contested a junior varsity race and two varsity fours races. The Aggies' second varsity eight won the JV race with a time of 7:03.2 with UC Davis' novice eight finishing second in 7:20.3. Creighton's JV boat crossed in 7:27.9.

In the first of the fours races, Creighton's B boat won with a time of 8:10.0 while its C boat was second in 8:13.9. UC Davis' entry consisted of novice rowers, who finished third in 8:40.8. Creighton's top four rowers made up its boat for the second fours race and they won with a time of 7:55.0 with UC Davis crossing in 8:14.9.
