UC Davis Continues Rowing Season At Head Of The American

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's rowing team continued its fall season with three crews competing at the Head of the American on Saturday at Lake Natoma, headlined by an eighth-place finish in the Collegiate Eight competition.

The Aggies also had a pair of boats in the Collegiate Four. Those crews finished 10th and 12th, respectively, in the 17-team event.

Crews competed in a time trial format over the three-mile course at Lake Natoma. UC Davis' entry in the Collegiate Eight finished in 18 minutes, 10 seconds, just three seconds behind San Diego State's C boat and one second in front of Stanford's B entry. Stanford's A crew won in 17:08 with Cal (17:16) and Gonzaga (17:17) rounding out the top three.

Southern Cal's entries grabbed the top four spots in the Collegiate Four race with USC's top boat finishing in 18:36. The Aggies' A entry in the race was timed in 20:37 to take 12th while its B boat finished in 20:56 and was 14th.

UC Davis boat in the Collegiate A race was comprised of coxswain Katherine Cobarrubia, May Roberts at stroke, Vanessa Cuellar at seven, Sunny Caldwell at six, Angela Bruno at five, Heidi Okowitz at four, Brooke Thomas at three, Amber Buntin at two and Sarah Kay at one.

 

 

The Aggies' A boat in the Collegiate Four was made up of coxswain Tara Davis, Libby Painter at stroke, Jamie Lummis at three, Reva Birnbaum at two and Lucci Lautze at one. The B crew was Joei Yau at coxswain, Cuellar at stroke, Okowitz at three, Bruno at two and Caldwell at one.

UC Davis will finish its fall season with the Newport Fall Regatta on Nov. 12.
