UC Davis Rowing Announces Three To Recruiting Class

DAVIS, Calif. - Alyssa Jones from Corona del Mar High School and Betsey Rihn of Wilson High School in Southern California, along with Melissa Wong of Lowell High School in San Francisco, have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the UC Davis women's rowing team this fall, head coach Emily Plesser has announced.

Jones, a member of Corona del Mar's section championships swimming team in both 2002 and 2003, has rowed as a member of the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach since 2004. She was a member of the program's second varsity eight boat which placed first at the state championships in 2005.

Rihn has participated as a member of the Long Beach Junior Crew program since 2004. She has been a Distinguished Scholar and honors student at Wilson High School and a member of the school's dance team.

Wong has been a four-year member of the Pacific Rowing Club in San Francisco and is serving as a team captain this year. She was a member of the varsity four that placed third at the Southwest Regional Championships in 2005, qualifying for the national championships where the boat placed 11th. Wong was also in the program's second varsity eight that was third at the regional championships in 2004.

UC Davis is heading into its final year of a four-year reclassification to NCAA DIvision I status. The Aggies annually compete against some of the nation's top rowing programs in regattas along the west coast.
