Hurst comes to UC Davis after serving as assistant coach at Smith College in Massachusetts since 2006. She has also served as a coach with the Northhampton Rowing Club, at the Chesapeake Crew Camp and was head coach from 2005-06 at Notre Dame Prep in Baltimore, Md.

She earned her degree in violin performance fro the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins University where she was also an accomplished rower. A four-year member of the rowing team, she was also a team captain and earned distinction on the 2003 College Rowing Coaches Association Division II All-America team. She went on to coach at her alma mater before moving on to Smith College.

"I am very excited to have Caitlin join our coaching staff," said Adams. "She will be a great fit for our team. I believe her coaching philosophy and style will mesh very well with the athletics program at UCD. Her knowledge of exercise science will fit perfectly into our rowing program, while her background in teaching and coaching at demanding academic institutions will be a great complement to UC Davis' student-first philosophy."

Hurst, who has begun her new position, joins second assistant Sarah Whipple on the Aggies' coaching staff. UC Davis has begun preparations for its upcoming season.
