DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis overcame a one-goal deficit at the half on its way to a 3-2 victory over Marist in a non-conference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Rochelle VanBuskirk scored two goals, including the game-winner, to help lead the Aggies to their first win of the season. Aisha Lott also had a goal for UC Davis (1-0-1). The loss dropped Marist to 1-2-0.
Marist posted a 2-1 advantage by the end of the first half with all of the scoring coming in a 10-minute stretch. It started with the first of two goals by Kate Fox in the 15th minute to put the Red Foxes up 1-0. Less than two minutes later, the Aggies countered when VanBuskirk connected from in front on an assist by Jenna Brehmer. That tied the game at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Later in the half, Fox converted a header on a corner kick to put Marist up 2-1 in the 25th minute. The score would remain 2-1 heading into the break.
Each team had seven shots in the first half, but it would be UC Davis that would control the attack in the second half. The Aggies outshot the Red Foxes, 17-1, in the final period and wasted little time getting even. In the 47th minute, Lott blasted a direct kick from about 35 yards out to tie the game at 1-1. In the 54th minute, VanBuskirk converted a penalty kick to make it 3-2.
UC Davis is next in action on Friday when it plays at Cal State Bakersfield.
