Hornets Score Three Times In Second Half To Spoil Aggies Season Opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Freshman Lisamarie La Vallee scored twice in the second half to lead the Sacramento State women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the UC Davis Aggies Sunday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The Aggies drop their season opener while the Hornets evened their early season record at 1-1.

It looked good early for UC Davis as sophomore Sita Kuteira put the Aggies ahead 1-0 during the 12th minute of the game with a header off of a corner kick from freshman Melissa Albrecht. It was one of 11 shots in the half for the Aggies as they outshot the Hornets 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes. While the shots were heavily in the Aggies favor, the score remained 1-0 through the first half.

Sacramento State tied the game during the 53rd minute when La Vallee and sophomore Melissa Condren got together for a long cross from the right side of the field. La Vallee took the pass and placed it into the back of the net past the outstretched arms of Aggie goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak.

La Vallee then put the Hornets ahead for good 10 minutes later as she scored her second goal of the game to by taking a pass from junior Jeane Kee to put the Hornets up 2-1 during the 63rd minute of the game.

Sophomore Kelly Law closed out the scoring when she received a pass down the center of the field from freshman Maggie Murphy and proceeded to dribble past the Aggie defense for a clear shot into the bottom left side of the goal.

For the game UC Davis outshot the Hornets 22-6. In goal, Lizak was forced to make just one save while Hornet goalkeeper Stephanie Shaw recorded seven.

UC Davis will next be in action this Thursday when it travels to Miami, Fla. to face No.8 Barry University. Gametime is set for 4:00 p.m. PDT.
