LONG BEACH, Calif. - Freshman Annie McAllister and junior Lindsey Raymond each scored second half goals to lead UC Davis to the 2-0 victory over Iona College in Friday's opening day of play at the 49er Classic, hosted by Long Beach State University. With the win the Aggies even their season record at 1-1 while Iona falls to 0-3. After a scoreless first half, McAllister took a pass from Megan Wall and beat Iona goalie Ticiana DiCarlo to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead at the 55:02 mark. McAllister scored from six yards out on the righthand side, beating DiCarlo to the ball and putting it past her into an open net. UC Davis then sealed the victory at the 82:40 mark as Lindsey Raymond scored from 12 yards out off a Katie Snyder assist. Davis goalie Krystyn Lizak recorded her first shutout of the season and came away with two saves. Iona managed just six shots on goal. The Aggies meanwhile got off 13 shots in the contest, four by McAllister and three by Raymond. DiCarlo recorded five goals saves for the Gaels. UC Davis continues play at the 49er Classic on Sunday when it meets Drake University at 10 am.
