BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Freshman Christen Rauschnot's goal in the 19th minute of play proved to be the game-winner as UC Davis remained unbeaten this season with a 1-0 victory over host Cal State Bakersfield in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer match Sunday afternoon on the CSUB Main Soccer Field.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 6-0-1, 4-0-1 in CCAA play while Bakersfield falls to 2-5-2, 1-3-1 in conference action.
UC Davis controlled play in the first half as it outshot the Roadrunners 6-1. Just prior to the 19th minute, Rauschnot entered the game and wasted little time making her impact felt. In the next minute, she found herself inside the Bakersfield box where she controlled the ball after a scramble and beat Roadrunner keeper Stephanie Hall to the near inside post for her first collegiate goal. Rauschnot had contained the ball that was originally shot by defender Kate Shesgreen, who was credited with the assist.
In the second half the momentum shifted Bakersfield's way, largely due to a change in the net as forward Lindsay Bush replaced Hall and made five saves, keeping the game within reach.
On the defensive end, Aggie goalkeeper Christine Ogden was equally impressive, recording three saves as she posted her third shutout of the season.
For the game, the Aggies outshot Bakersfield, 17-6, and held a commanding 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
UC Davis returns to the field on Sunday, September 29, when it hosts Western Oregon in a non-conference game at Aggie Field beginning at 11:00 a.m.
