LOGAN, Utah - Nicole Gooch scored three goals while teammate Charlsie Harris added two goals and an assist as Utah State remained unbeaten at home with a 5-0 win over UC Davis Thursday afternoon.
With the loss UC Davis falls to 2-6 on the season while Utah State improves to 3-5, with all three wins coming at home.
After 25 scoreless minutes to start the game, Gooch recorded the game-winner at 25:28 as she took a cross from Lacy Kennington along the right side and beat UC Davis keeper Krystyn Lizak for the first score of the game. Just before halftime Gooch added her second, again on a Kennington assist. Off a scramble, Kennington found Gooch who beat Lizak to make it 2-0.
UC Davis made a change in net to start the second half as freshman Megan Daws came in, but the change did not affect Gooch. The senior greeted Daws with her third goal of the game, this one coming off a diagonal cross from Charlsie Harris, just three minutes into the second half. Harris then closed out the scoring with a pair of her own goals, one coming in the 56th minute and the last in the 59th minute.
For the game Utah State outshot UC Davis, 19-6, and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior midfielder Sita Kuteira managed the only shot on goal for UC Davis, forcing Utah State keeper Megan Mills into the save.
UC Davis is next in action on Saturday as it remains in Utah to face Utah Valley State in Orem. Gametime is set for noon (PDT).
