IRVINE, Calif. - UC Davis women's soccer went up against a tough opponent in No. 23 ranked UC Irvine, dropping a 6-0 contest on Sunday, at Crawford Field in Irvine, Calif.
After a 2-0 lead at halftime the Anteaters scored four second half goals en route to the win. Tanya Taylor poured in seven points, after two goals and three assists in the win for UCI. With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 5-5-1 and 0-2 in the Big West, while UCI improved to 10-1-2 and 2-0 in league play.
UC Davis played even up with the Anteaters in the first 20 minutes, holding a 5-3 shot advantage and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. UCI managed to break free in the 24th minute, with Mar Rodriguez scoring a goal to put the Anteaters up 1-0.
UCI wasted no time extending their lead, as Lexi Kopf converted on a goal just four minutes later. Kopf scored her fifth goal of the season, taking a cross from Taylor before putting the Anteaters on top 2-0.
Despite out shooting UCI 8-7 in the first half, the Aggies couldn't capitalize on a goal, keeping the score at 2-0 during the intermission.
It was all Anteaters in the second half, as UCI scored four goals to put the contest out of reach.
Taylor scored on a breakaway in the 55th minute, before Dana Sanderlin struck less than two minutes later for a goal that gave the Anteaters a 4-0 advantage.
The goals for UCI continued to come in bunches, with two more in the final 20 minutes. Taylor scored her second goal of the game in the 73rd minute and Jordan Kopf capped the game off with a goal in the 88th minute for a final 6-0 score.
Kathleen Brandl and Maria Magana split time in goal for the Aggies, while Danielle de Seriere was credited with the shutout for UCI after six saves.
UC Davis will look to bounce back next weekend at home, when they play host to Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m.
