Ngoon Gets Game-Winner As Aggies Blank Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Junior midfielder Tristan Ngoon scored just nine minutes into the contest and the Aggie defense did the rest in posting its third shutout of the season as UC Davis defeated Grand Canyon 4-0 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer game Friday evening at the GCU Soccer Complex.

With the win the Aggies improve to 4-4-1 on the season, 4-2 in CCAA play while the Antelopes fall to 1-10 overall, 0-8 in conference action.

Ngoon got things going at the 8:44 mark when she took a crossing pass from sophomore Shannon Mally and beat Antelope goalkeeper Kim Kukla for her second goal of the season. UC Davis would not score the rest of the half but another goal was not necessary as the Aggie defense did not allow Grand Canyon to attempt a shot in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, Mally recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season on an assist from junior Leifa Mayers during the 55th minute. Five minutes later, freshman Roxanne Croze scored her first goal of the season with a shot from in front of the goal. Sophomore Lindsey Raymond closed the scoring in the 76th minute as she took a pass from sophomore Sita Kuteira and beat Kukla for her first goal of the 2003 campaign.

For the game the Aggie outshot the Antelopes 18-2 as UC Davis posted its third shutout of the season. In goal for the Aggies, Krystyn Lizak went the first 70 minutes without needing to make a save while Rosie Matli saw her first action of the season, going 20 minutes and recording two saves.



UC Davis will next be in action on Sunday when it faces UC San Diego in La Jolla. Gametime is set for 4:30pm.
