Box Score

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Freshman Kelly Cochran's penalty kick in the 67th minute proved to be the game-winner as UC San Diego rallied for the come-from-behind 2-1 victory over UC Davis in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Triton Soccer Stadium.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 4-5-1 on the season, 4-3 in CCAA play while the Tritons improve to 10-1 overall, 8-1 in conference action.

It was UC Davis getting on the board first at the 11:40 mark when junior Leifa Mayers headed home her fourth goal of the season. Sophomores Sita Kuteira and Shannon Mally were each credited with assists as Kuteira passed to Mally on the right flank ahead of Mally's cross to the charging Mayers at the back post. The score remained 1-0 through halftime.

In the second half the Tritons evened things up in the 53rd minute following a deflection off an Aggie defender. Triton Heather Sugg's shot from inside the box appeared to be going wide of the left post. Attempting to clear the ball of her own end, an Aggie defender put the ball in the UC Davis net, resulting in an own goal and making the score 1-1.

Thirteen minutes later Cochran was taken down inside the penalty area and awarded a penalty kick at the 66:27 mark. Cochran converted the kick and the Triton defense would preserve the 2-1 victory over the final 23 minutes.

In goal, Aggie keeper Krystyn Lizak recorded five saves for the afternoon.

UC Davis will next be in action on Friday when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino at Aggie Field. Gametime is set for 12:30pm.
