Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Marisa Boge scored a goal and assisted on the other as UC Davis defeated UC Irvine, 2-1, Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference women's soccer game at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Rochelle VanBuskirk scored her 12th goal of the season as the Aggies improved to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the Big West.

UC Davis had its first opportunity in the 17th minute when VanBuskirk and Boge had a two-on-one from 30 yards out. VanBuskirk fed a pass from the right side to Boge on the opposite side. Boge's shot from about 10 yards out was stopped by a diving Anteater keeper to keep the game scoreless.

Boge, who had three of the Aggies' five first-half shots, capitalized in the 31st minute with her sixth goal of the season. Lisa Kemp started the sequence from just inside midfield with a pass over the top of Boge's defender about 20 yards out. Boge proceeded to dribble to just in front of the goal and pushed a shot inside the left post to put the Aggies up 1-0.

UC Davis would take the one-goal lead into halftime and keep it for the first 22 minutes of the second half. In the 67th minute, VanBuskirk and Boge combined to make it a 2-0 game. VanBuskirk started it with a pass in the middle to Boge on her left. Boge quickly passed it back to a sprinting VanBuskirk on the right side, who quickly fired a shot past the Anteater keeper.

UC Irvine (8-5-1, 1-2-0 Big West) cut the lead in half in the 80th minute when Tanya Taylor connected on her fifth goal of the year. From that point, the Aggie defense was able to hold back the Anteaters and preserve the victory.

UC Irvine outshot UC Davis, 16-10, with an equal 8-5 advantage in each half. Sarah Peters finished with six saves in earning the win in goal for the Aggies.

VanBuskirk continues to lead the Big West in goals and has scored at least one goal in four straight games. It's the second time this season she's had such a streak. Friday's goal also tied her for second place in Aggie history for goals in a season. She needs two more goals to tie the school record for goals in a season.
