IRVINE, Calif. - Aggie sophomore Sienna Drizin's first goal of the season tied UC Davis' match with host UC Irvine but the Anteaters added two more goals en route to a 3-1 Big West Conference women's soccer win on Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies, who opened their weekend roadtrip with a 1-1 tie at Long Beach State on Thursday, fell to 3-6-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference. UC Irvine, which had three different players score goals, upped its record to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the Big West.
The Anteaters didn't take long to strike first in the match, picking up a goal in the seventh minute when Laura McGrail passed across the box to Zuri Walker who collected the ball and put it inside the left post for a 1-0 lead.
UC Davis, though, answered quickly, equalizing the game less than five minutes later when a free kick in the box was saved by UC Irvine goalkeeper Corey Tobin but the rebound was quickly put into the back of the net by Drizin. It was Drizin's first score of the season and fifth of her career. Lexi Poppoff earned the assist.
Aggie keeper Taylor Jern and the Anteaters' Tobin each made a save over the next 28 minutes as the teams remained tied. McGrail, however, provided her second assist on the eventual game-winner, finding Zoya Farzaneh whose sliding shot made it 2-1 in the 40th minute.
Jenna Pellegrino's goal in the 75th minute rounded out UC Irvine's scoring while pushing the score to 3-1.
The Anteaters' outshot the Aggies 12-4 while also holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jern had five saves while Tobin finished with two.
UC Davis returns to action on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Field when it hosts Hawai'i in another Big West match.
