DAVIS, Calif. - After a scoreless first half in Thursday's Big West Conference match at Aggie Soccer Field, Hawai'i struck twice in the second half to defeat UC Davis, 2-0, in its conference home opener.

The Aggies will conclude their Breast Cancer Awareness week Sunday, and enter that match with a 3-7-3 overall, and 0-2-1 conference record. Hawai'i improves to 7-7-0 and 2-3-0 respectively with the result.

All fans are encouraged to wear pink articles of clothing to support the program's cause, t-shirts will also be available for purchase inside the facility.

UC Davis goalkeeper Taylor Jern made two key saves in the first half to keep the Rainbow Wahine from entering the half with a lead of any size.

With less than five minutes remaining until halftime, Jern collected a huge save against Hawai'i's Tiana Fujimoto on a 1v1 opportunity to preserve the scoreless tie. Minutes later she deflected a well-struck ball from Ryan Daniel over the crossbar to thwart the Rainbow Wahine's final scoring opportunity of the half.

An unfortunate turn of events allowed Hawai'i to score the first goal of the game; eluding the outstretched hands of a diving Jern, Kama Pascua's shot ricocheted off the far post, into a pile of players that were fighting for position in front of the Aggies' net. Fujimoto, her team's leading scorer, was the first player to put a touch on the ball to give her team a one-goal lead with a nominal amount of time still remaining.

Exactly two minutes later, what started as an innocuous cross from Hawai'i pinballed off two players camped in front of the goal, into the back of the net, to double the Rainbow Wahine's advantage.

Other than those two unfortunate turn of events, both teams posted near-similar numbers throughout the match. Each team finished the match with 14 shots apiece; UC Davis earned one more corner kick compared to its counterparts (4-3), Hawai'i finished the contest with one more saved compared to the Aggies (6-5).

Bridget Berman led all players with five shots and finished with a team-high two shots on goal.

UC Davis will return to action Sunday afternoon against Cal State Northridge, kick-off at Aggie Soccer Stadium will take place at 1 p.m.
