Aggies Post Second Straight Shutout in 4-0 Win At Cal State L.A.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior Arlene Tuttle's goal in the 19th minute was all the scoring the Aggies would need as UC Davis defeated Cal State L.A., 4-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer game Friday afternoon.

With the win the Aggies improve to 6-6-1 on the season, 6-4 in CCAA play while the Golden Eagles fall to 3-11, 2-8 in conference action.

Tuttle got things going for UC Davis early when took a through pass from freshman Katie Snyder and found herself alone in front of Cal state L.A.'s goalkeeper Jessica Herrera. Tuttle deposited the shot from just in front of the net for her first goal of the season. Junior Leifa Mayers made it 2-0 in the 38th minute when junior Jacque Kocer's long pass from the Aggie side of the field took a big bounced in front of the Golden Eagle net. Mayer's beat her defender and Herrera to the ball and re-directed it with her chest into the net for her fifth goal of the season, temporarily tying her with Shannon Mally for the team lead.

With less than four minutes to play in the first half, Mally regained the team scoring lead as she took a pass from Lindsey Raymond and was one-on-one with Herrera, who she beat for the 3-0 lead and her sixth goal of the year.

In the second half the only scoring came in the 87th minute when Raymond took a pass from Magdalena Guzinski at the top of the box. Raymond took one touch and blasted a left-footed shot to the lower right corner of the net to close out the scoring.

In all the Aggies outshot the Golden Eagles 17-5 on the afternoon, forcing Herrera into seven saves. Aggie goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak recorded three saves before giving way to Rosie Matli in the 69th minute. Matli was not forced to make any saves in the game.

 

 

UC Davis will next be in action on Sunday when it faces CCAA Central Division lead Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson. Gametime is set for 12:30 p.m.
