SACRAMENTO, Calif. -
Kristin Aja scored in the sixth minute and Krystyn Lizak posted her second shutout of the season as UC Davis posted a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State in a women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.
With the win the Aggies improve to 5-8-1 on the season while the Hornets fall to 2-12-0.
Aja scored the only goal the Aggies needed at the 5:45 mark when she found the end of a Lisa La Vallee cross and from five yards in front of the net, struck the ball past Hornet freshman goalkeeper Brittany Auernig. It marked Aja's second goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 through halftime as Lizak made three first-half saves to keep the Aggies up by a goal.
The Aggies tallied their insurance goal late in the second half, with Lindsey Raymond scoring her eighth goal of the season in the 80th minute. Annie McAllister broke free of the Hornet defense and dribbled toward goal before passing the ball to Raymond, who beat Auernig from seven yards out.
UC Davis outshot Sacramento State, 14-11, and finished with seven shots on goal to the Hornets' five. Raymond led the Aggies with three shots on goal, while Hornet midfielder Linda Sanchez also finished the match with three shots on frame.
Lizak finished the game with her second shutout of the season and five saves while Auernig also ended her day with five saves.
