Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara scored three times in the first 10 minutes on its way to a 3-0 victory over UC Davis Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference women's soccer game at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The contest was the home finale for the Aggies, who honored seniors Marisa Boge, Jordan Martin, Rochelle VanBuskirk and Britnee Warmerdam prior to the game.

VanBuskirk, who leads the Big West in goals and is tied for 10th in the nation in goals per game, scored the lone Aggie goal on a penalty kick to up her season total to 13. With the win, UCSB improved to 8-8-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the conference while UC Davis dropped to 6-8-1 and 1-5-0, respectively.

The early Gaucho blitz started late in the fourth minute on a successful corner kick. Kylie McDonald started the sequence from the left corner, and Cory Yoshida finished it on a header from in front of the goal to make it 1-0. Three minutes later, Kailyn Kugler gave UCSB a 2-0 lead with her ninth goal of the season. Midway through the 10th minute, it was a goal by Katy Roby that increased the lead to 3-0.

The Aggies pulled within 3-1 on VanBuskirk's penalty kick in the 54th minute, which was created when she was fouled by the UCSB keeper. VanBuskirk is now one goal shy of tying the UC Davis single-season record for goals.

"I thought (VanBuskirk) did a great job today," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson. "She's a hard worker, and she finds a way to be dangerous. The penalty kick she scored was off of her effort. She was a bright spot for us."

A minute after the penalty kick, UC Santa Barbara reclaimed its three-goal cushion on Roby's second goal of the game. That was the final goal in the 4-1 victory.

UC Santa Barbara outshot UC Davis, 14-10. Five different Gauchos had two shots each. On the Aggie side, Rachel Kahn led the team with three shots. Sarah Peters finished with six saves in goal for the Aggies.

UC Davis is next in action Oct. 30 when it plays at Cal State Fullerton.
