RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A close race for a Big West Conference Tournament berth got even closer on Thursday night as host UC Riverside held UC Davis to just four shots on the night en route to a, 3-0, victory at the UCR Soccer Stadium in Riverside, Calif.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 4-11-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league play, placing them on the outside looking in when it comes to a berth in the conference's postseason tournament in fifth place, but they stand just one point behind the Highlanders for the fourth and final spot.

Riverside improved to 7-10-2 overall and 4-3 in the Big West with one match remaining in the regular season. The Highlanders host Hawai'i, while UC Davis travels to Long Beach State in Sunday's finales that will see eight of the conference's nine teams in action. The Aggies need a win over the 49ers and a loss or draw by Riverside against the Rainbow Wahine to earn a tournament berth.

A goal by Giselle Preciado just three minutes into the contest on Thursday night set the tone for UCR, which added second-half scores in the 52nd and 86th minutes to seal the victory.

Senior Mandy McKeegan had a pair of early corner kicks, but the Aggies were held to without a shot attempt until Laura Nichol unleashed an attempt that was turned away by Alanna Guzman in net in the 47th minute.

McKeegan, Mahlah Catline, and Ari Zamora, also had second-half attempts -- two of which were stopped by Guzman, while three of the team's five corners by McKeegan came in a three-minute span midway through the period, but UC Davis was unable to convert.

Junior goalkeeper Alexis Smith made a pair of saves to give her 80 saves on the year and 201 for her career -- the latter just four back of Kelly Parker (1997-00) for fourth on the all-time list. Smith's 80 stops are the most for an Aggie keeper since Taylor Jern finished with 85 during the 2013 season.

Kick off from George Allen Field in Long Beach, Calif., is scheduled for 2 p.m.
