SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -
Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Colen gathered a pass in traffic from Erin Hartmann less than two minutes into the overtime period and beat Aggie goalkeeper Christine Ogden for the game-winner as San Francisco State remained in the post-season race with the 1-0, overtime win over UC Davis in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer game Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, UC Davis suffers consecutive defeats for the first time this season and falls to 9-5-2 overall, 7-4-2 in CCAA play while San Francisco State improves to 11-4-4 overall, 7-4-2 in conference play.
With one game remaining, CCAA North Division leader Sonoma State (25 points), along with UC Davis (23) and San Francisco State (23), all remain in the hunt for the final playoff spot. Should Sonoma win or tie against the Gators on Saturday, they would clinch the division crown. UC Davis can advance with a win Saturday at Chico State and a Sonoma loss to the Gators.
The two teams played a scoreless 90 minutes, although it was the Gators that held the statistical edge. They outshot UC Davis, 12-4 in regulation play and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. In the overtime period, SFSU would get three shots off in the opening two minutes, finally connecting on its final attempt. It marked the third goal for Colen this season, all game-winners.
UC Davis will conclude its regular season this Saturday when it travels to Chico State for a 7:30 p.m. meeting against the Wildcats.
