UC Davis Has 38 Named Big West All-Academic

DAVIS, Calif. - Nearly 40 UC Davis student-athletes, representing five fall teams, earned recognition for their efforts in the classroom when they were named to the Big West Academic All-Conference team, announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.

To be eligible for Big West All-Academic honors, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the year for which the award is bestowed, and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests for that year.

UC Davis was well-represented across the spectrum of fall sports. Women's cross country had five make the list, including sophomores Erika Barr and Kaz Shidara, and seniors Alycia Cridebring, Shannon Harcus and Sarah Sumpter. The men's cross country squad had seven earn distinction, a group that includes sophomores Amar Dholakia, Patrick Fitzgerald and Eric Neil, juniors Trevor Ehlenbach, Trevor Halsted and Will Melton, and senior Grayson Hough.

The Aggie men's and women's soccer teams combined for 17 honorees. Sophomores Sienna Drizin, Charlotte Ellberg, Lindsey O'Tousa, Mari Pastor and Ana Marija Sola were joined by junior Lexi Poppoff and seniors Bridget Berman, Hannah Hicks and Emily Irion. The UC Davis men had eight players make the squad; sophomore Ryan Gross, juniors Andre Brown, Brian Ford, Sam Hoeck, Ian Palmer and Matt Sheldon, and seniors Alex Aguiar and Michael Garrick. 

Women's volleyball had nine Aggies recognized on the list. Jillian Johnson and Kaylin Squyres were joined by juniors Megan Lancaster and Katie Quinn, and seniors Valerie Brain, Devon Damelio, Lindsay Dowd and Victoria Lee.

Altogether, 191 student-athletes from the Big West's nine member institutions were honored on the All-Academic team.
