DAVIS, Calif. -
UC Davis women's soccer coach MaryClaire Robinson has announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the most recent signing period. Danielle Contro, Molly Scott, Keely Spillane and Brianna Tsui have committed to attend UC Davis beginning in the fall of 2005.
"Molly, Danielle and Brianna are defenders who we are really excited about," said Robinson. "We lose some senior leadership in the back and this group will help us with speed, experience and our physical presence. Keely is a crafty, quick playmaker who will add a spark to our midfield."
Contro attends Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif. where she is a teammate of fellow signee Scott. In 2004 she was named to the All-West Catholic Athletic League second team and was the team's defensive MVP. She has played the last seven years of club soccer for the Sunnyvale Roadrunners, helping the team to the 2003 State Cup semifinals and a quarterfinal finish last season. Additionally, she was a member of the Cal North Olympic Development Team in 2004 and the ODP District II teams from 2001-2003.
Scott attends Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif., where she has earned three varsity soccer letters. This season she has helped her team to a 13-1-6 record and a first-place finish in the West Coast Athletic League. A two-year captain, she also serves as her senior class president and volunteers with the National Charity League. Scott has played club soccer the last three years for the Stanford Quake.
Spillane attends Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, Calif. Playing her fourth year of varsity soccer, Spillane has helped her team to an 11-7-3 record this season from her midfielder position. As a freshman Amador Valley captured the North Coast Section championship. Spillane serves as her senior class vice president and has been a leadership member since 2003. She plays club soccer for the Pleasanton Rage, which has been a state cup finalist from 2001-2004. She was also a member of the California North Olympic Development Team from 2000-2002 and was in the Region IV players pool from 2001-2002.
Tsui attends Monte Vista high School in Danville where she is in her fourth season of varsity soccer. From her defender position, she has helped Monte Vista to three top two finishes in the Eat Bay Athletic League the past three years, including the EBAL title in 2003. That season the team captured the North Coast Section title and last year finished second in the EBAL and was a section semifinalist. Following each of her three season she has been named to the All-EBAL team, grabbing second-team honors after her freshman and junior seasons, and a first-team selection in 2003, when she was also named to the All-Contra Costa Times team. Currently she plays club soccer for the Pleasanton Rage, where she is a teammate of fellow signee Spillane. In addition, Tsui is a three-time CIF NCS Scholar-Athlete.
"This class is one that has some spunk and personality," said Robinson. "I think that is going to be helpful and push us a bit."
