DAVIS, Calif. – The first athletics team to begin official competition in 2014-15, UC Davis women’s soccer will open its challenging 2014 schedule, as announced on Monday by head coach Twila Kaufman, at Sacramento State (Aug. 22).

In addition to the five available Causeway Cup points, UC Davis will also have an opportunity to extend its seven-year unbeaten streak against the Hornets in the inaugural matchup of the year-long competition between common teams from both schools.

Prior to its season opener at Sacramento State, UC Davis will host Sonoma State on Aug. 16 in its lone exhibition match; two days after their head-to-head matchup against the Hornets, the Aggies’ first road trip of the year will conclude at San Diego State (Aug. 24).

The Aztecs are one of four squads from last season’s NCAA playoffs that the Aggies will face, other College Cup teams on this year’s docket include Utah, Santa Clara, and Cal State Fullerton—last season’s Big West Conference representative.

UC Davis will return to campus for its next two events when San Jose State (Aug. 29) and Quinnipiac (Aug. 31) visit Aggie Soccer Field. San Francisco (Sept. 12), Utah (Sept. 14) and Pacific (Sept. 27) round out UC Davis’ list of home non-conference matches.

Following their inaugural home contests, the Aggies will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the team’s only tournament of the year. That event will also serve as a homecoming for UC Davis assistant coach Robin Grossman who spent the previous three years as a member of the women’s soccer program at Air Force before joining Kaufman’s staff in February.

The Aggies will first face Southeast Missouri State (Sept. 5) before capping their weekend against the host Falcons (Sept. 7).

UC Davis will remain local for its final road non-conference tilts by visiting Nevada (Sept. 19) before facing Santa Clara (Sept. 21)—one of last year’s playoff teams that advanced to the Sweet 16.

A season-long three-match homestand that starts with the Aggies’ final non-conference contest, against Pacific, will continue with the team’s inaugural Big West matchups of the year when UC Riverside (Oct. 2) and Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 5), last year’s Big West Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament champions, visit Davis.

Five days after ending their longest homestand of the year, the Aggies will open their season-high three game road swing against the defending regular season champions at Cal Poly (Oct. 10). UC Davis will travel to UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 12) and Cal State Northridge (Oct. 16), before returning to campus for two of their final three matches.

A home contest against Long Beach State (Oct. 19) will kick-off the final weeks of the season; UC Davis will head to the islands to face Hawai’i (Oct. 24) in their final road contest of 2014 before ending the regular season in front of the Aggie faithful versus UC Irvine (Nov. 2).

Once UC Davis' season finale against the Anteaters concludes, attention will shift to San Luis Obispo, site of this year's Big West Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. The league's top four teams will travel to the Central Coast to square off against one another, on Nov. 6, when the conference's regular season champion battles its No. 4 seed in one of two semifinal matches. Also taking place that day is the other semifinal featuring the No. 2 and No. 3-seeded teams.

The winner of those contests will duel for the Big West title and an automatic berth to the NCAA playoffs on Nov. 9.
