DAVIS, Calif. -- To help UC Davis prepare next week's season opener at Sacramento State, the Aggies will host Sonoma State in an organized scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 16. Kickoff at Aggie Soccer Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The scrimmage is open to the public and admission is free.
UC Davis and Sonoma State will compete in three 30-minute periods throughout the afternoon.
Saturday's scrimmage is the first of four preseason contests on the Seawolves' slate and the only tune-up for UC Davis prior to its annual Causeway Cup clash -- a match that also doubles as the team's inaugural match of the season.
This matchup will also provide the newest members of the program their first opportunity to compete in organized competition, against an outside opponent. Since their first practice took place on Aug. 6, the 12 newcomers have been busy battling their teammates for one of 11 coveted spots in the starting lineup.
In addition to this year's incoming class, 17 returning players -- including five starters -- comprise first-year head coach Twila Kaufman's roster.
Two days after facing the Hornets (Aug. 22), the Aggies will end their first road trip of the season at San Diego State (Aug. 24). UC Davis' home opener will take place the following weekend, on Aug. 29, when San Jose State visits Aggie Soccer Field for the first time in two seasons.
