KICK OFF: One of three unbeaten teams in the Big West Conference after the first two weeks of league play, the UC Davis women's soccer team hits the road for the first time since the beginning of September to take on a pair of the conference's top programs, facing UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton in Southern California. After five straight home matches, the Aggies take on the Anteaters on Thursday (Oct. 12) at 7 p.m., before a Sunday matinee (Oct. 15) against the Titans at 2 p.m.

IN THE RANKINGS: Neither UC Davis, UC Irvine, nor Cal State Fullerton, are ranked in the national polls this week.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!: The Aggies will be featured in a national broadcast for a second time this season as the Big West Conference office announced that UC Davis' league contest at UC Irvine on Oct. 12 will be broadcast live on the ESPN3 platform. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Anteater Stadium, one of 13 events to be streamed live this fall. A complete listing of games is available at: http://www.bigwest.org//story.asp?story_id=19971. It will be the Aggies' second national broadcast of the year after opening the season against defending national champion USC on the Pac-12 Network.

ABOUT THE ANTEATERS: UC Irvine enters the week with an 8-3-4 overall record and is unbeaten in Big West play at 3-0-1 on the year following a scoreless draw with Long Beach State and a 3-2 win on the road at Hawai'i… The Anteaters are unbeaten in their last five matches overall dating back to a 2-1 loss at Santa Clara on Sept. 21… UCI is 4-1-2 at Anteater Stadium this season, with its only loss coming against Pepperdine back on Sept. 17… Reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Week Noel Baham leads the team with 16 points overall, scoring five times and assisting on six others, while Kiana Palacios leads the team with six goals and is second with 15 points… Goalkeeper Maddie Newsom has played all but 16 minutes in net this season, posting a 0.82 goals against average and 55 saves to go along with a league high six shutouts.

SERIES NOTES: UC Irvine leads the all-time series, 8-4-3, and is unbeaten in seven of its last eight meetings (5-1-2) with UC Davis… The Anteaters posted a 1-0 win over the Aggies last season in Northern California with the Aggies' last victory in the series coming in 2015 by a 2-1 score on the road… According to records that date back to 1990, UC Davis is 2-4-1 on the road against UC Irvine in the series, posting its only other win in Orange County back in 2004.

ABOUT THE TITANS: Cal State Fullerton enters with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play, hosting the Aggies in its only match of the week… The Titans split their two contests last week, falling at UC Riverside, 1-0, before shutting out rival Long Beach State, 2-0… Fullerton has outscored conference opponents 5-1 in its three matches this year… Senior forward Sarah Fajnor leads a trio of Titans in double-digit points, leading the team with six goals and 16 points overall, and is joined by senior midfielder Samantha Koemans (5 goals - 5 assists - 15 points) and sophomore forward Atlanta Primus (5 goals - 3 assists - 13 points)… Reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Week, goalkeeper Morgan Bertsch, has played every minute in net, posting a 0.70 goals against average and 38 saves to go with five shutouts -- the latter ranking second in the conference.

SERIES NOTES: Cal State Fullerton has won 12 of the 14 all-time meetings with UC Davis in the history of the series, with the Aggies snapping an eight-match losing streak to the Titans with a 3-2 win at the Aggie Soccer Field last season… Each of the last five matches between the two programs have been decided by a single goal, with two of those decided in double overtime… UC Davis' only other win in the series came at home back in 2008 by the score of 2-1… The Aggies have not won at Titan Stadium in five chances dating back to 2005.

START ME UP: UC Davis grabbed itself a piece of history with last week's victory over Cal Poly, opening Big West play with 2-0 record for the first time since joining the league in 2008. The Aggies had previously posted unbeaten starts in 2014 (1-0-2), 2015 (1-0-1), and 2016 (1-0-1), but had never had two straight wins to kick-off the league table.

BACK-TO-BACK: Wins over Hawai'i on Sept. 28 and Cal Poly on Oct. 5 gave the Aggies back-to-back victories for the first time this season and the first time since they won three straight from Sept. 20 - Oct. 1, 2015.

STOP RIGHT THERE: After clinching her 17th career shutout to tie the school record two weeks ago against Hawai'i, junior goalkeeper Alexis Smith inches toward another spot in the UC Davis all-time list, making four saves in the win over Cal Poly last week to give her 62 on the year and 183 for her career -- placing her just 22 back of Kelly Parker for fourth on the career chart. Smith continues to lead the Big West in saves (62) and saves per game (6.20), while standing second in save percentage (.827), and also ranks 24th in the nation in saves per game, 67th in save percentage, and 74th in overall saves.

M&M: For the second straight match, the combination of Mandy McKeegan and Mckenna Moriarty came up big, giving the Aggies an early lead against Cal Poly. For Moriarty, it was her second goal in only her fourth match of the season, while McKeegan collected a point for the second straight match and four contests overall.

HELP ME, HELP YOU: McKeegan's assist against the Mustangs was the 10th of her career, moving the Manhattan Beach, Calif., native ever closer to the top five in the UC Davis record books as the neurobiology, physiology, and behavior major, needs just four more assists to match Kim Haskell (1993-96) and Laura Whitsitt (1994-95) for fifth on the all-time chart.

QUICK LIKE A "CAT": Freshman Mahlah Catline notched her team-high third goal of the season to push the Aggies past Cal Poly, shaking a defender with her team a man down and firing back across to the far post off her right foot in the 82nd minute for the 2-1 win. It was the first goal for the Reading, England, native since she scored UC Davis' lone goal against UNLV back on Sept. 3.

IN IT TO WIN IT: A lucky bounce here or there and the Aggies' record thus far through 2017 would look a lot different. Eleven of UC Davis' 12 matches overall (the second highest of any Big West school this year), and eight of the team's nine defeats this year (the most of any league member this season), have been decided by a single goal.

THIS CLOSE: The 11 matches decided by a single goal for the Aggies in 2017 surpasses the total of such games accumulated by the Aggies in each of the last three seasons and are the most since the 2013 squad played in 11 one-score contests. The eight defeats by a one-goal margin this year are the most since the 2012 team had its heart broken eight times by a single goal.

DUAL THREATS: Standouts on the field and in the classroom, UC Davis student-athletes compete at some of the highest levels of Division I athletics while preparing for life after college at the nation's No. 6 public university. Featuring the nation's top veterinary medicine and agriculture schools, UC Davis student-athletes are enrolled in 93 of the 104 undergraduate programs offered by the University -- 10 of those represented by the women's soccer program...
