DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's soccer team will look to finish the 2012 season on a high note and play the spoiler role when the Aggies host Cal State Fullerton on Friday and UC Riverside on Sunday at Aggie Soccer Field.
Both games begin at 2 p.m.
UC Davis is 7-8-2 overall and in seventh place in the Big West Conference with a 2-4-1 mark. The Aggies have seven points in the standings and are unable to move up high enough to earn a berth to the conference tournament. They can, however, have a say in which team does.
Besides trying to end the season in positive fashion, the Aggies will also honor their three seniors on Sunday - Allison Kelly, Kathleen Brandl and Katie Webb. The trio will be recognized for their contributions to the program in pregame ceremonies prior to kickoff.
Cal State Fullerton enters the weekend having won five of its past six games. The Titans recorded three consecutive 1-0 shutouts during that span, winning at first-place Cal State Northridge and Hawaii, and then downing visiting UC Riverside. They split games with UC Santa Barbara (L, 0-1) and Cal Poly (W,4-0) last weekend.
Cal State Fullerton is led in scoring by Stacey Fox who has seven goals and 16 points, while Ann Marie Tangorra has added six goals. Lindsey Maricic has a 7-4 record in goal while stopping 39 shots.
UC Riverside beat UCSB 1-0 last weekend, ending a six-game winless streak which included five losses. The Highlanders were outscored 14-4 during that time. They did have a strong performance from goalkeeper Jessica White who posted a shutout against the Gauchos and surrendered just one goal to Cal Poly, earning her Big West Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
UC Davis is coming off a tough roadtrip last weekend, falling at Hawai'i on Friday and then 1-0 at Cal State Northridge on Sunday. The Aggies are looking for their first win since beating Pacific 3-2 on Oct. 5. They've been involved in tough games lately, with six of their last seven games decided by a single goal and the other ending in a tie.
