DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Amy Rosson pitched a two-hit shutout as UC Davis beat San Francisco State 1-0 in the opener of their California Collegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader at La Rue Field on Saturday, but the Gators gained a split with a 4-3 win in nine innings in the nightcap.

UC Davis is 11-5 overall and 9-3 in the CCAA after the twinbill while San Francisco State is 4-10 overall and 4-6 in conference action. Jenna Cresta hit her first career home run in the nightcap to help account for the Aggies' offense.

The first six outs recorded by Rosson on Saturday came by strikeouts, while the only hits she allowed were a bunt single in the second inning by Danielle Russo and a single to left by Chrissy Hildenbrandt in the fourth. Otherwise, the Aggies' All-America pitcher was dominant, picking up at least one strikeout in six innings and retiring the final nine batters she faced. Rosson has 82 strikeouts in eight starts this season and is now 7-1.

UC Davis gave her the only offense she would need in the second inning with a two-out rally. Catcher Megan Turman singled up the middle, stole second and then came around to score when an errant throw on an infield grounder by senior Sue Yale slid past first base and to the dugout fence.

Gators pitcher Sonja Garnett gave up just three hits to UC Davis as Megan De La Hoya doubled and Kacey Sevier and Turman singled. Garnett had two strikeouts and just one walk.

San Francisco State earned a split in the nightcap with a two-run rally in the seventh. Cresta's deep homer to left leading off the sixth inning staked the Aggies to a 3-1 lead for starter Rachel Kelly. However, in the seventh, the Gators capitalized on an infield error, a walk, a run-scoring single from catcher Rachel Darrow and a wild pitch to score two runs and tie the game against Kelly.

An infield single by Melanie Perez to start the ninth led to Russo - who came in as a pinch-runner for Perez - being sacrificed to second. With two outs and Russo at third after an infield grounder, San Francisco State took a 4-3 lead on Rodrigue's single to right. Garnett, who came on in relief of Holly Pearce in the seventh, then put down the Aggies in order for the win.

Michelle Malbon's sacrifice to left in the second scored Sevier with the game's first run while Lindsey Roark's single in the fourth scored Cresta with the Aggies' only other run besides the homer. Kelly had four strikeouts and just two walks and is now 3-2.

Darrow and Perez each had two hits for the Gators while Malbon and Roark each had a pair for the Aggies.

UC Davis will host Chico State on Friday in another CCAA doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
