DAVIS, Calif. - Taylor Peters’ three-run double with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a second comeback by the UC Davis softball team as it downed South Dakota, 11-10, during the second day of the Aggie Invitational I at La Rue Field on Saturday afternoon.

UC Davis, which trailed 6-0 before getting its first turn at the plate, improved to 6-6. Brooke Curtis hit her second home run of the season and went 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs for South Dakota, which fell to 1-13.

Curtis doubled to center with two outs in the top half of the eighth to bring around Katie Cochran and Yvon Minogue and put South Dakota in front 10-8. The Coyotes forced extra innings after scoring once in the seventh for an 8-8 tie.

Ashley Paine was placed on second for UC Davis in the bottom of the frame because of the international tiebreaker rule and she moved over to third on a groundout. Walks to Alexis Carney and Megan Salazar loaded the bases with two out, leading to Peters’ double on a 2-2 count that cleared the bases and delivered the Aggies the win.

UC Davis picked up the victory after trailing 6-0 out of the gates. Curtis doubled in two and Shelby Keil hit a two-run homer as South Dakota chased Aggie starter Andrea Reynolds and relief pitcher Sara Cadona with eight hits. Carney’s RBI single to right in the bottom of the first gave UC Davis its first run while three hits and four errors in the second helped the Aggies climb to within 7-3.

The score remained that way until the Aggies exploded for five runs in the fifth. A sacrifice fly by Christina Guidry, a run-scoring double by Kelly Zboralske, and an RBI single Meghan Bradbury highlighted the rally which also featured a walk and hit batter with the bases loaded. Sydney Hancock’s two-out single in the seventh tied the game, 8-8, for the Coyotes.

Paine, Salazar and Carney each had two hits for UC Davis while Leah Munden pitched two innings to get the win.

UC Davis will conclude action in their second home tournament of the season when its faces South Dakota again at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday and then New Mexico at 1:30 p.m.
