Megan Turman hit 4-for-4 in the first
game then
Lindsay Moore matched that line along with two homers and seven
RBI as UC Davis swept Cal St. San Bernardino, 14-4 and 15-1, in a California
Collegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader Friday at Coyote Field.
The Aggies improve to 16-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The Coyotes
drop to 5-17 on the season, and 3-7 in league.
Fourteen different UC Davis players collected at least one hit during
the twinbill, as the team amassed a total of 35 safeties. Susan Churchwell's
two-out solo shot in the first inning led off the attack in the first game.
Moore and Michelle Malbon each ripped two-run doubles in a five-run third
inning and Jessica Miller produced a two-run pinch-hit single as part of
the Aggies' seven runs in the sixth. Turman had two doubles, two RBI and
two stolen bases to go with her 4-for-4 line.
Amy Rosson scattered four hits across five innings of work, fanning three
batters against no walks to garner the Game 1 win.
Sue Yale launched the second Aggie offensive in the second game as her
grand slam capped a five-run first inning. Moore matched that feat with
a grand slam in a five-run UC Davis fourth inning, then added a two-run
blast in the fifth inning. Marci Hill, pinch-hitting for Yale immediately
after Moore's second shot, responded with a solo homer of her own.
Jennifer Borrelli went 3-for-3 with two runs and a steal to help bolster
the 17-hit output.
Churchwell surrendered just one hit in four innings to pick up the decision
in the nightcap. She also struck out two while walking none.
The Aggies head south to UC San Diego for continued CCAA action Saturday.
