DAVIS, Calif. - The Aggie Invitational women's softball tournament wrapped up Monday afternoon with the resumption of a previously suspended contest followed by a pitcher's duel at La Rue Field. Host UC Davis completed its halted Friday game with a nine-inning, 2-1 victory over Northern Colorado to start the day, then lost in a two-hit shutout to the visiting Bears to close out its first home tournament of the 2018 season.

UC Davis moves to 15-10 for the season.

Senior third baseman Ashley Lotoszynski launched a walk-off double to lift the Aggies in the opener, with Katie Kibby striking out 10 Bears against just one walk for the winning decision. Freshman Alyse Rojas also had an RBI single in the eighth to keep UC Davis alive in the game.

The Aggies will host the three-day, five-team NorCal Challenge starting this Friday. The tournament field comprises UC Davis, Fairleigh Dickinson, Pacific, Sacramento State and Santa Clara.

GAME 1: UC DAVIS 2, NORTHERN COLORADO 1 (9 inn.)
Alyse Rojas and Lotoszynski each had RBI hits in the extra frames to boost UC Davis in the resumption of a previously suspended game. The Aggies and Bears had locked up in a scoreless tie through five innings on Friday when darkness halted the game.

Kibby, who allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts in those five innings, sent down UNC in order during the sixth and seventh innings on Monday. Meanwhile, UC Davis put runners on in each of those frames without managing a run. A single by Riley Siegel led off the bottom of the seventh, a Maddie Rojas sacrifice moved her to second, but Bears pitcher Lauren Paige escaped the threat.

With the tiebreaker rule now in place, Northern Colorado pushed across a run in its eighth, thanks to an RBI single by catcher Emma Brockmann. However, UC Davis equalized in the bottom half. Pinch runner Marissa Jauregui took third on a sacrifice bunt by second baseman Alex Sotomayor, then came home on Alyse Rojas' infield hit.

Kibby retired UNC 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth, forcing a harmless pop fly, a routine grounder to third then a comebacker for herself, setting up the Aggies for the ninth. Lotoszynski connected on a 2-2 pitch for the go-ahead double, wrapping up the victory. Kibby earned the win, thanks to just three hits and no earned runs in nin innings of work.

GAME 2: NORTHERN COLORADO 1, UC DAVIS 0
Junior righthander Valerie Vidal fired a two-hit shutout while right fielder Madi Schmidt hit 2-for-3 to lead UNC to the 1-0 victory in Monday's nightcap. Maddie Rojas and Isabella Leon earned hits for UC Davis, with freshman Brooke Yanez allowing just four hits and the game's only run in seven frames in the pitching circle.

The Aggies put one runner in scoring position, as Leon singled to center than immediate swiped second. In contrast, the Bears threatened in the first, second and fifth innings without scoring, stranding eight total runners in the contest. They scored their only run on a double-steal in the seventh. Schmidt found herself in a rundown between first and second and was being chased back to first when Kenzie Kudrna scampered home. Kudrna, who led off the inning with a single, slid in ahead of the tag for the game's lone run.

UC Davis looked like it might take the win in the bottom half of that stanza. Lotoszynski reached on a walk, sending Siegel to the plate as the potential winning run. The freshman catcher and physical sciences student launched four deep foul balls to left, the last of which barely hooked foul. Her fifth foul fly stayed just within play such that Kudrna could chase it down for the out.

The Aggies return to action in the final two Friday games of the NorCal Challenge, taking on Fairleigh Dickinson and Santa Clara at 1:45 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
