NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – UC Davis shortstop Christa Castello went 2-for-4 to lead her team in hitting but runs scored in the first, third, fourth and fifth inning in Sunday’s Big West game at Matador Diamond helped Cal State Northridge record a 4-0 victory.

The result pushes the Aggies’ overall and Big West record to 12-24 and 1-5 while the Matadors improve to 25-14 and 3-3.

Castello recorded her inaugural hit of the afternoon when she opened the game with a single to CSUN shortstop Madison Fleming. The sophomore tallied her final hit when she reached first on a single to the Matadors’ other middle infielder in the fifth inning.

Cat Guidry, who pushed a single through the left side of the infield in the second inning and Amy Nunez, who also reached safely on a single to Fleming, were responsible for the Aggies’ other hits.

In addition to her single, C. Guidry recorded a stolen base in her team’s only attempt; with that swipe, the sophomore outfielder has now recorded eight steals in nine attempts and trails only Brianna Warner who leads all Aggies with 10 (in as many attempts).

On two singles and two walks in the first inning, CSUN scored its first run to take an early lead. A throwing error in the third inning, solo home run in the fourth and two UC Davis miscues in the fifth helped the Matadors extend their lead in consecutive innings.

Prior to this weekend, UC Davis won the last four straight weekend series against the Matadors, a streak of success that began during the 2009 season. Even through their opponents took two of three games, the Aggies still hold a solid advantage in recently played games in this series with UC Davis collecting wins in eight of the last 11 head-to-head games.

The Aggies’ six-game conference road swing will continue next weekend at Cal Poly, Saturday’s doubleheader from Bob Janssen Field in San Luis Obispo will start at 4 p.m.
