LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Davis softball team was swept for the first time in the conference season, dropping a 10-0 and 2-1 loss to Long Beach State on Saturday at the 49er Softball Complex.

Erin Jones-Wesley threw a one-hit shutout in game one, helping the 49ers take a five-inning win. Nalani St. Germain lifted Long Beach State in game two, using a walk-off solo home run to give the 49ers a one-run victory.

Jessica Gonzalez had the only RBI hit of the day for the Aggies. Alex Holmes took the tough luck loss in game two after scattering seven hits and striking out four. Hannah DeGaetano paced the Long Beach State offense in game one, registering four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

With the wins, the 49ers improved to 27-13 on the season with a 5-3 mark in Big West play. UC Davis dropped to 18-18 on the year and fell to 3-5 in conference competition.

In game one, Long Beach State had the bats going early and often. The 49ers stranded two on base in the first before exploding for five runs in the second. Scoring all five runs on a two-out rally, Long Beach State had two RBI hits to score three runs and a pair of walks to score two unearned runs.

The Aggies couldn't get much going on offense, as the first eight batters of the game were retired in order. Megan Guzman had the only hit of the game for UC Davis in the top of the third.

Long Beach State added one run in the third and four in the fourth to take a double-digit lead. Christina Schallig had a two-run home run in the fourth before a two-RBI single for DeGaetano gave the 49ers a 10-0 advantage. Long Beach State recorded 12 total team hits in the first game.

Jones-Wesley improved to 15-4 with the win, after throwing five scoreless innings with one hit and five strikeouts. Holmes started in the circle for UC Davis and took the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work.

In game two, the Aggies managed to reach the scoreboard in the top of the first but couldn't add another run for the remainder of the game. Holmes was able to settle in for game two but came away with her second loss of the day in the circle.

UC Davis took advantage of a pair of walks in the first inning, putting two on with two out. Gonzalez had a piece of clutch hitting, sending an RBI single to right field that gave the Aggies a 1-0 advantage.

The 49ers were able to answer in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run on one hit. Similar to the top of the first, Long Beach State had two walks and an RBI hit from Liz Javier to make the score 1-1.

UC Davis couldn't take back the lead for the remainder of the game, posting six scoreless innings and stranding five on base for the game.

The 49ers prevented the game from entering extra innings, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. After a ground-out started the inning, St. Germain sent the walk-off home run over left field to give Long Beach State the 2-1 win.

Brooke Turner earned the win in the circle for the 49ers and improved to 8-5, throwing a complete game four-hitter, while allowing one runs and striking out seven. Holmes dropped to 12-13 on the season with the loss after two runs and seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.

UC Davis will look to bounce back with a win tomorrow, with the conclusion of the three-game series played at 1 p.m.
