RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Brianna Warner pushed UC Davis out to an early 2-0 lead when her two-out single to center field allowed Isabella Leon and Alexis Carney to score in the first inning of Sunday’s Big West Conference game at Amy. S Harrison Field, but a two-run single through the right side of the infield, hit by Ashley Lotoszynski with two outs in the top of the seventh, lifted UC Davis to a 5-4 victory in this weekend’s series finale.

Softball will now enter Wednesday’s 4 p.m. home game vs. Cal, the final non-conference contest of the season, and the first of four straight at La Rue Field, with an 18-26 overall and 3-9 Big West record. UC Riverside ends its weekend with records of 23-20 and 5-7

Trailing 4-3 entering the final frame of the game, Leon reached first on a fielder’s choice, then advanced to third when Brianna Warner reached base. The Aggies’ speedy centerfielder drew a rushed throw to first base; that Highlander miscue allowed her to advance to second on the play.

It was then when Lotoszynski stepped up with an opposite-field single that split UC Riverside’s first and second basemen, and allowed both her teammates to score. Taking place on a 0-1 count, that swing turned a 4-3 deficit into the game’s final score.

With a one-run lead now in her possession when she returned to the circle in the bottom of the inning, Katie Kibby struck out Brittney Garcia swinging, forced Chelsey Holley to fly out to center and Danielle Ortega to hit a pop up to Leon at third to end the game.

That final out capped a complete-game effort — Kibby’s 12th of the year — that saw the freshman pick up her team-high 11th win of the season after allowing only two earned runs.

In addition to Lotoszynski, Warner and Taylor Peters also collected two hits throughout the day. As was the case with Warner, Leon scored twice, and Carney also recorded one of the Aggies’ runs.

Lotoszynski also contributed to the Aggies’ third run of the afternoon, which took place in the third inning. On a play that started with the designated player’s hit to right field, Warner advanced her way around the diamond to score, thanks to a pair of Highlander errors, breaking a 2-2 tie in the process.
