DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman right-hander Katie Kibby shut down Cal Poly in Sunday's Big West series finale by allowing the Mustangs to muster only two hits, UC Davis' defense shined throughout all seven innings and Marissa Jauregui scored the only run by either team by hitting the first homer of her career in the fourth inning to lift the Aggies to a 1-0 victory.

With Sunday's result, UC Davis ends the weekend with a 19-29 overall and 4-11 Big West record; Cal Poly will head home with records of 31-16 and 7-8.

Coming off a four-hour, 13-inning marathon that ended yesterday's doubleheader, UC Davis looked sharp in the field, and showed zero signs of wear, tear or fatigue.

Shortly after Cal Poly earned its first hit of the day in the fourth inning, Taiya McInnes caught Stephanie Heyward stealing at second. In the following frame, Sierra Hyland reached on a lead-off single, and made it to third before the Aggies ended the inning with a double play.

Alex Sotomayor caught a line drive to record the second out of the inning, then fired towards third when she saw Hyland a few steps away from the bag. Sotomayor's heads-up play ended the Mustangs' lone scoring threat of the day, and preserved the Aggies' 1-0 lead.

"There were moments where I needed to step up, especially after yesterday's [13-inning] game. My teammates had my back on defense, and we ended up playing a great game," said Kibby, who picked up her 12th win, 13th complete game and fifth shutout of the season.

That run was scored in the bottom of the fourth when, on the first pitch thrown in that half of the inning, Jauregui blasted a shot over the fence in left center. Jauregui will always remember that swing because that was her first home run as an Aggie, which eventually became the game-winner.

"I thought about my parents when the ball first came off my bat. After it sailed over the fence, it hit me about how I just helped my team. When I touched home, the feeling I had was unforgettable. I will remember that for the rest of my life, I cannot tell you how happy I was to see each one of my teammates was there to share that moment with me," said Jauregui.

UC Davis will head to UC Santa Barbara for its final Big West road weekend of the season, beginning with Friday's 3 p.m. series opener. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
