Game 1
Game 2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Davis softball team gave up just four total runs in a Big West Conference doubleheader on Saturday, but they were enough for UC Santa Barbara to win both games by one run. The Gauchos held on to take the first game, 3-2, before posting a 1-0 victory in the second game. Erin Emde drove in both Aggie runs.

Neither team had more than six hits in either game as pitching dominated both sides. The big hit for UCSB (25-22, 8-9 Big West) in the first game came in the first inning as Jessica Ziegler hit a two-run homer to make it 2-0. The Gauchos added another run in the second and led 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth.

With one out in the fourth, Kelly Harman singled before Sarah Axelson doubled. Up next was Emde, who drove in both runners with a single to pull UC Davis within 3-2. UCSB had a chance to add to the lead in the bottom of the fourth but left the bases loaded against Jessica Hancock.

UC Davis threatened in the sixth when, with two outs, Emde singled. Marissa Araujo doubled to put runners at second and third, but a fly out ended the inning. Michelle Espiritu reached in the seventh with a one-out pinch-hit single but was erased on a game-ending double play.

Hancock allowed just one hit with three strikeouts in four innings of relief. Each team had six hits in the first game.

In the second game, Alex Holmes was equally effective as the sophomore allowed just one unearned run while scattering six hits over six innings. The Gauchos scored the game's only run in the fifth inning while outhitting the Aggies, 6-4. Axelson, Emde, Holmes and Araujo accounted for the UC Davis (21-29, 5-12 Big West) hits.

The two teams conclude their three-game series Sunday at noon.
