SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After being edged 3-1 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Campus Diamond, UC Davis rebounded in impressive fashion by scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie, and win the weekend series by collecting a 4-2 victory in game two.

The Aggies will return home for their final games of the 2017 season with a 21-30 overall and 6-12 Big West record. UC Santa Barbara, a team that suffered two of its five home losses this season to UC Davis this past weekend, will enter the final week of the season with records of 28-24 and 8-8.

Alex Sotomayor's RBI fielder's choice in the top of the third cut her team's deficit in half; when Maddie Rojas doubled to left two batters later, Sotomayor touched home to even the score at 2-2.

The Gauchos' short-lived lead lasted only two innings after scoring twice in their half of the first.

For the next four innings, UC Davis starter Katie Kibby and her counterpart, Veronika Gulvin, took turns hanging zeros on the scoreboard until the Aggies broke through in the top of the eighth to take the lead for good.

The game-winning scoring rally began when Ashley Lotoszynski drew a walk with one out already recorded. Rojas joined her on base shortly thereafter when her single squirted through the right side of the diamond into right field. Afterwards, Brianna Warner loaded the bases when she reached first base on a Gaucho miscue.

A UCSB passed ball allowed Lotoszynski to score from third; a grounder from Alexis Carney allowed the Aggies to add another insurance run heading into the bottom half of the frame.

With a two-run lead now in her possession, Kibby shut down the Gauchos by striking out Sierra Altmeyer, and forcing Alyssa Diaz and Kayla Krantz to hit pop flies to second and short respectively. Once Christa Castello squeezed her glove for the game's final out, Kibby recorded her team-high 14th victory of the season, and the second over UCSB's Gulvin this weekend.

Including Marissa Jauregui's RBI in the first game, seven different Aggies drove in at least one run throughout the weekend. Led by Warner's six, out of 11 collective at bats, nine different field players recorded a hit off Gauchos pitchers in UC Davis' final road series of the season.

Kibby picked up both Aggie victories, allowed only two runs throughout her combined 15 innings in the circle, posted a 0.93 ERA and fanned five UCSB batters throughout her two appearances.
