DAVIS, Calif. - After spending the first two weeks of the league season on the road, UC Davis will host its inaugural Big West weekend series of the season when Cal State Fullerton visits La Rue Field. Due to the Easter holiday, action will begin with Friday’s 3 p.m. series opener, and continue on Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
The first Youth Softball Weekend is also slated for this series; softball players ages 13 and under that arrive to La Rue Field, in their team jersey, will have an opportunity to run the bases and participate in a postgame autograph session shortly after the second game concludes.
These three games against Cal State Fullerton will cap the toughest start of conference play for any BWC team. After facing Hawai’i on its own diamond — one of the toughest places to play on the West Coast, if not the entire nation— for its first set of league contests, the Aggies continued their season last weekend at Long Beach State — a team that competed at last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Games against 2016 postseason participants continues this weekend against the Titans, the recipient of the Big West’s automatic NCAA bid as last season’s league champion.
Cal State Fullerton enters the weekend with a 20-18 overall and 3-3 Big West record after dropping two of three at home to Cal Poly last weekend. During the Titans’ first week of league play, CSF lost its league opener, but swept the doubleheader at UC Riverside to win that series.
UC Davis will compete in its BWC home opener coming off a dominating 5-0 shutout victory at Long Beach State last weekend. During that weekend series, Maddie Rojas drove in two runs, Alexis Carney and Ashley Lotoszynski each recorded a RBI, and generated the offense needed to end the weekend with a victory. Combined with Katie Kibby’s one-hit effort, the Aggies ended a six-game homestand on a positive note.
Starting this weekend against Titans, nine of UC Davis' last 15 games will take place on its home field.
