DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis softball program has signed seven future Aggies to National Letters of Intent, announced head coach Karen Yoder. The student-athletes will come to UC Davis following impressive prep careers both on and off the field. The signees include Megan Guzman (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS), Chelsea Jewett (Cypress, Calif./Cypress HS), Elizabeth Santana (Fontana, Calif./Etiwanda HS), Kelly Schulze (Pacifica, Calif./Terra Nova HS), Jessica Thweatt (Sacramento, Calif./Inderkum HS), J'anna Wagoner (Napa, Calif./Napa HS) and Dana Waldusky (Glendora, Calif./Glendora HS).
"This is an amazing class that has endless capabilities," said Yoder. "These young ladies will bring a wealth of talent and dedication our squad is excited about. They exemplify the complete package of student and athlete with the heart to strive towards excellence."
Guzman, an outfielder, was the co-most valuable player of the Moore League as a sophomore after collecting 45 hits and batting .446. She was Woodrow Wilson's team MVP that year before batting .412 as a junior with 14 stolen bases. Guzman has twice been named first-team Dream Team. She was a second-team All-Moore League selection as a junior. She helped lead her team to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs in 2008.
Jewett, an outfielder, received All-Academic honors as a junior following a sophomore season in which she claimed team defensive MVP honors. That followed a freshman campaign in which she collected offensive MVP honors for Cypress. Jewett's team advanced to the CIF-Southern Section semifinals in her sophomore season. The future Aggie is a three-time member of Cypress' Principal Honor Roll and has also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.
Santana, an infielder, has been a three-time first-team All-Baseline League selection for Etiwanda and has also received first-team All-Academic Team honors since her freshman season. As a junior, she was the Baseline batting champion with a .565 average and received co-MVP honors in the league. Last year also featured a league championship for Etiwanda and advancement to the CIF-Southern Section quarterfinals. Santana's club team, the So Cal Explosion Gold, placed fourth at nationals in 2008. Santana has been a member of the Honor Roll for the past three years.

Schulze, a catcher/infielder, is a three-sport athlete who starred for Terra Nova's softball team. She batted .658 last year while leading her team to a 22-4 record. Schultz helped Terra Nova to a first-place finish in the Peninsula Athletic League last season. Over the past two years, she has been named the PAL Player of the Year while garnering first-team All-County honors. Schultz has been named to the Honor Roll for the past four years and has also been a member of the volleyball and soccer teams.
Thweatt, a pitcher, has been dominant in the circle over the past three years for Inderkum. She posted a 0.38 ERA as a junior to go along with 226 strikeouts in 128.1 innings. As a sophomore, she finished with a 0.99 ERA and struck out 233 in 135 innings. Thweatt has been an All-League selection for the past three years and has been Inderkum's team defensive MVP for the past two. She also received Academic All-League honors to go along with an Academic Achievement Award as a sophomore and junior.
Wagoner, a catcher/outfielder, is coming off consecutive first-team All-Monticello Empire League honors after receiving honorable mention as a freshman. She batted .430 as a sophomore before posting a .291 average as a junior. Wagoner was the All-County Player of the Year as a sophomore and was also named to the All-County Team last year. She has helped lead Napa to a combined 47-7 record over the past two years and a pair of first-place finished in the MEL. Napa advanced to the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals in both 2007 and 2008. Wagoner has been a member of the Honor Roll for the past four years.
Waldusky, a pitcher/infielder, helped lead Glendora to a runner-up finish in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs in 2008. The season featured a first-place finish in the Sierra League as Waldusky posted a 0.93 ERA and a 14-5 record. She pitched 113 innings with 139 strikeouts against just 13 walks. Her efforts led to first-team All-League honors. As a sophomore, she finished with a 0.63 ERA with 105 strikeouts in 100 innings pitched. Over the past three seasons, she has struck out 338 batters in 297 innings. In addition, Waldusky received Academic All-League honors the past three years and has been a six-time member of the Principal Honor Roll.
All seven student-athletes will join the Aggies beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.
