Team earns fifth-straight academic award

2013-14: ALL-BIG WEST CONFERENCE DOUBLES HONORABLE MENTION... ARTHUR ASHE, JR. SPORT SCHOLAR...ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE... Posted an 11-14 overall singles record... Split her 20 singles dual matches... Finished 3-5 at No. 2, 2-2 at No. 3 and 5-3 at No. 4... Competing alongside Megan Heneghan, Kobayakawa won a program-record 21 overall and 18 doubles dual matches... Ended the season by winning 16 straight matches, a new all-time team high... Won both matches at No. 1 and 16 of 19 at No. 2... Of her doubles victories, only one was earned via tiebreak -- the two earned an 8-7 come-from-behind victory by winning their tiebreaker by a 7-3 margin over UCSB's Jaimee Gilbertson and Priscilla Garcia in the Aggies' quarterfinal matchup at the Big West Women's Tennis Tournament.
2012-13: ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE... Led the team with 19 overall and 16 dual singles victories... Won two of three matches at the No. 3 position, five of eight as a No. 4, six of seven as a No. 5 and three of four matches as a No. 6 singles player... Kobayakawa ended her junior season with 10 singles wins in her last 13 dual matches... She defeated No. 63 Sacramento State's Olivia Boua to help UC Davis snap a 12-year losing streak against the Hornets (2/15)... It was her singles win that served as the difference in that match against Sacramento State... Also downed Margot Charron 6-1, 6-2 to help the Aggies earn another upset victory this time over No. 64 San Jose State (3/3)... Ended the regular season with three straight singles wins... Also defeated UC Riverside's Natalie McKay 6-0, 6-2 (4/25) to help UC Davis advance to the quarterfinal round of the Big West Women's Tennis Championships... Recorded a 9-10 overall and 9-6 dual match mark in doubles competition as a No. 3... Went 2-3 overall and 2-1 in dual play with Lauren Curry as a partner... Won her only doubles match played with Zoe Davidson... Posted a 6-5 figure in 11 doubles duals with Megan Heneghan... Seven of her last nine matches ended in victorious fashion... Earned an individual sweep over UC Riverside's Kat Saltarelli and Kate Bergeson (9-7, with Curry as a doubles partner) in the opening round of the Big West Championships.
2011-12: ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE... Played at No. 6 singles during dual match schedule, finishing with a 1-1 record and a 1-0 mark in Big West Conference play... Was 1-3 in fall tournament action for an overall record of 2-4... Opened sophomore campaign with a win over Gonzaga's Alexandra Tallas (6-4, 6-3)... Lone conference win of the year was a 6-0, 6-0 victory over UC Riverside's Rachell Andra... Paired with Noelle Eades in doubles, appearing in four matches during the fall season.
2010-11: ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE...Served as a reserve No. 6 player during the dual match schedule, finishing with a 4-3 record and a 1-1 mark during Big West play... Was 3-2 in fall matches for a 7-5 combined singles record... Was 4-0 during dual match doubles with multiple partners... Also posted a 3-1 doubles mark with partner Noelle Eades during fall competition.
MONTA VISTA HS '10: Helped lead her team to a NorCal CIF championship in 2009 and 2006... Was the team captain on the 2009 championship squad that went 25-1 overall, playing at No. 3 singles... Her Monta Vista team also won a Central Coast Section championship in 2006 and 2007... She was named All-League in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) in 2008 and 2009... Received the Scholar Award at Monta Vista in 2010, after holding a GPA higher than 3.5 for seven semesters... Also was named the Outstanding Senior in 2010, which is awarded to student athletes who have good sportsmanship and leadership, while being a dedicated team member.
PERSONAL: Born in Santa Cruz, Calif.... Majoring in nutrition science... Parents are Rebecca and Noritaka Kobayakawa... Career highlight is breaking into the top five in the NorCal... Sports hero is Billie Jean King... Also participated in gymnastics in high school.
