Aggies Open Season With 7-0 Loss At Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - UC Davis concluded its swing through Arizona and come out on the short end of a 7-0 loss against the Arizona State Sun Devils Saturday morning at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

After being rained out on Friday at the University of Arizona, the Aggies drop their 2005 season-opener.

The Sun Devils opened up by sweeping all three doubles by identical scores of 8-0.

In singles play Arizona State continued its strong play by taking all six matches in straight sets. At No.1 Ally Muller dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Sabrina Capannolo while Yuka Otaka fell to Kady Pooler, 6-2, 6-4, at No.5.

"I though we gave a good effort and the players all had a good attitude coming away from the match," said Aggie head coach Bill Maze. "I feel like we learned a lot in this match, playing against a team at this level. Now we want to get back to Davis and work on (areas we need to improve)."

UC Davis is next in action on Thursday when it faces defending national champion Stanford in Stanford.
