Women's Tennis continues victory streak at home

Jan. 27, 2018

DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis women’s tennis team extends their undefeated record to 3-0 at home after getting a 5-2 victory over Santa Clara at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies started off their match day strong by acquiring the 1-0 lead early on, thanks to the first of two match wins received by UC Davis tandem Isabella von Ebbe and Nikita Pradeep, 6-4, and then the second coming from partners Lani-Rae Green and Kristina Breisacher, who finalized the doubles points victory for the Aggies after defeating Santa Clara’s Madison Clarke and Zeina El Tawil, 7-6(0).

Freshman Sara Tsukamoto bumped the Aggies’ team score to 2-0 after winning her match over Delaney Nothaft in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-1, but then Santa Clara’s Madison Clarke responded back by getting the Broncos their first team point after her matchup with Aggie senior Kristy Jorgensen. The one-point difference in the team scores was short-lived as Pradeep gave UC Davis their two-point lead again with her straight-set win over the Bronco’s Elvena Gevargiz, 6-4, 6-2.

With a 3-1 UC Davis lead and three more singles matches still in play, von Ebbe scored the match win for the Aggies defeating Caitlyn Frankel in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

Although UC Davis finalized their dual victory, 4-1, after von Ebbe’s match, the other two matches continued on. Santa Clara’s Zeina El Tawil pushed through to score one more point for her team after out-performing Green in the third set before Breisacher officially concluded the day by scoring one more point for UC Davis, making it a final 5-2 score, after bettering Maddie Pothoff in the third set.

The UC Davis women’s tennis team will have their next two matches take place in San Diego, Calif., where they are scheduled to go up against San Diego State on Saturday (Feb. 3), and then UC San Diego on Sunday (Feb. 4).
