Aggies conclude San Diego trip with a win over Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. —  The UC Davis women’s tennis team bounced back from their loss against San Diego State on Saturday morning by getting a 5-2 victory over No. 9 UC San Diego the next day at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla, Calif.

After this weekend, the Aggies are now carrying a 4-1 overall record.

Starting off the day with doubles play, UC San Diego’s Ashley Chao and Becky Chou bested Aggie tandem Kelsie Bryant and Kristy Jorgensen; however, UC Davis responded with two doubles victories to secure their 1-0 lead going into singles. The first doubles victory for the Aggies came from partners Kristina Breisacher and Lani-Rae Green, who defeated the opposing team 7-5, while UC Davis duo Nikita Pradeep and Isabella von Ebbe clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over UC San Diego’s Shuchen Lin and Chloe Wight. Prior to their 7-5 win over doubles partners Lin and Wight, Pradeep and von Ebbe started their matchup with a 1-5 disadvantage, pushed through with six in-a-row set victories.

Green and Breisacher served the Aggies their first and second singles points, respectively, after defeating the Tritons’ players in straight-sets before von Ebbe secured the team win for UC Davis with her straight-set match victory over Valeria Corral, 6-2, 6-4. After von Ebbe’s performance, the final score was now a 4-1 UC Davis victory.

Each team scored one more point before the dual officially concluded at a 5-2 final score. Pradeep won her match after besting her opponents in the last two sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, while one of the Tritons’ players defeated Jessie Lee in the third set’s tiebreaker.

The UC Davis women’s tennis team returns to the courts next Saturday (Feb. 10) in Stockton, Calif., where they are scheduled to go up against Pacific’s team at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
