DAVIS, Calif. - It truly was a super Sunday for UC Davis as it collected back-to-back shutout home victories by defeating Stanislaus State, 4-0, and Sonoma State, 7-0, at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

The Aggies will head to the islands next weekend for Friday’s match at Chaminade with a 5-1 overall record. That dual is the final tuneup before women’s tennis competes in its inaugural Big West match of the season, slated for Saturday at Hawai’i.

Stanislaus State and Sonoma State each fall to 0-1 with today’s result.

Kristy Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant won both doubles matches played; their teammates would have recorded an identical record were it not for a couple of unique circumstances.

Had Isabella von Ebbe and Kristina Breisacher won their matchup against Stanislaus State a bit quicker, they would have finished 2-0 by clinching the doubles point against the Warriors for their team. Instead, the pair entered singles play with (officially) an unfinished result, leading 5-2 against J’Ana Diamond and Ebony Qualls.

Since Stanislaus State only fielded two doubles teams, UC Davis secured the first point of the round, by default, before action officially began.

By winning the other doubles match needed to collect the first team point of the morning, and their other doubles contest of the afternoon vs. Sonoma State, von Ebbe-Breisacher have won their last four in a row and hold a team-high victory total.

Unable to compete in the morning, Nikita Pradeep and Samantha Martino did record a doubles triumph against Sonoma State — the back-half of a rare tennis doubleheader — shutting out Jenna DeTurk and Katherine Long to earn the first of the Aggies’ three wins throughout the round. With this result, the pair is tied with von Ebbe and Breisacher for the most doubles victories collected this season.

As was the case against Stanislaus State, all six Aggies recorded straight-set singles victories against Sonoma State. Competing at singles Nos. 1-6 throughout the day were (respectively) Jorgensen, Breisacher, Pradeep, von Ebbe, Martino and Kecki.

Were it not for something that took place in her first singles match, Pradeep would have recorded the exact same result as last weekend: winning 24 consecutive games. Stanislaus State’s Jaella Conway snapped the freshman’s streak, she responded by collecting another singles shutout just a couple hours later against Sonoma State's Jordyn Kearney.
