Feb. 10, 2018

STOCKTON, Calif. — The UC Davis women’s tennis team came off a successful dual match on Saturday afternoon after getting a 5-2 match win against Pacific at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. The Aggies bumped their overall record to 5-1 for their 2018 dual season.

The Aggies started off on the right foot going into singles play as they went three for three in doubles match victories. The first win came from UC Davis partners Kristy Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant, who bested their opponents 6-1, while debut doubles pairing of Nikita Pradeep and Sara Tsukamoto clinched the Aggies’ 1-0 lead after defeating the Tigers’ Yuki Asami and Anna Ramos Vinolas, 6-0.

UC Davis also garnered the first singles match win of the day, thanks to Pradeep’s straight-set win against Pacific’s player; however, the Tigers secured the second singles victory to make it a temporary 2-1 score.

For the remainder of the match, the Aggies earned the next two singles match victories to get to the four-point mark and seal their team win over the Stockton university. The first of these two wins came from Jorgensen, and the second came from senior and co-captain Lani-Rae Green, who won her match against Pacific’s Ramos Vinolas thanks to her performance in the last two sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Although the match win already belonged to UC Davis, each team scored one more singles point to bring the dual to a final 5-2 score.

The UC Davis women’s tennis team returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at the Marya Welch Tennis Center for their conference-opener against Hawai’i, starting at 1:30 p.m.
