DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis swept the opening three doubles matches then cruised to victory in singles play as the Aggies defeated Cal State Los Angeles 8-1 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's tennis match Friday afternoon at Hickey Courts.

With the win the Aggies improve to 3-2 on the season, 3-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles see their record fall to 2-3 on the season, 1-2 in CCAA action.

The Aggies opened the day as their No.1 duo of Ally Muller and Nancy Mok easily defeated Phoebe Bachofer and Ronalyn Miller, 8-0. Amanda Wise and Ashley Lehman made to 2-0 with the 8-1 win over Melissa White and Charise Godoy at No.3 while Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig closed out doubles play with an 8-4 win over Jessica Scruggs and Maggie Bollinger at No.2.

In singles play, the Aggies captured three matches in straight sets. Muller defeated Godoy 6-4, 6-3 at No.1 while Fong had little trouble with Miller, 6-4, 6-1, at No.3. Yuka Otaka posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bollinger at No.4.

Mok dropped the first set before coming back with a 6-7 (7-9), 6-1, (10-3) win over Bachofer at No.2. A 10-point tiebreaker was used for the third set in that match and at No.6 singles, where Aggie Luna Tieu defeated Scruggs, 4-6, 6-3, (10-0).

The Golden Eagles lone victory came at No.5 singles where Silvana Stanz, who played No.1 last season for Cal State L.A., defeated Audrey Wingo, 6-2, 6-2.

"It's nice to get back in the win column after our two matches last week against (Division I) Sacramento State and Pacific," said Aggie head coach Bill Maze. "The match was closer than the score indicated and our doubles looked better than in previous matches. It was nice to see Yuka (Otaka) win the clinching match for us just as it was starting to drizzle."

UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it faces Saint Mary's in Moraga. Matchtime is set for noon.
