Women's tennis secures match win over Cal Poly

Feb. 25, 2018

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The UC Davis women’s tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over conference team Cal Poly after freshman Shirley Hall clinched the fourth team point at the Mustang Tennis Courts on Sunday morning.

Cal Poly started the dual off strong by sealing the doubles point by winning the first two finished matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

It was not until singles play where the Aggies out-shined the Mustangs to win it all when it came to the last match of the day. Junior Isabella von Ebbe tied the match 1-1 after defeating Caroline Williams in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore Nikita Pradeep followed through with a straight-set win of her own over Molly Reed to give the Aggies the team lead.

Cal Poly tied the game 2-2 after a singles win at the No. 1 position; however, senior Lani-Rae Green and Hall pushed through to score their team's third and fourth point, respectively, to secure the UC Davis victory over the Big West Conference school.

The UC Davis women’s tennis team returns to action next weekend as they welcome CSUN, another conference university, to the Marya Welch Tennis Center at noon.
