DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis swept the opening three doubles matches then cruise with four singles victories as the Aggies picked up their first win against a Division I opponents this season following a 7-2 victory over the University of Nevada Sunday morning at Hickey Courts.
With the win UC Davis improves to 4-3 on the season.
The Aggies began the day with wins at all three doubles spots, led by Ally Muller and Nancy Mok's 8-4 win over Bach-Lam Pham and Myriam Bouchlaka at No.1. Amanda Wise and Ashley Lehman made it 2-0 with a win at No.3 over Cherie Pettersson and Christine Tilley while Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig closed out doubles play with an 8-6 win over Kristen Davenport and Fiorellia Velez at No.2.
In singles action the Aggies captured three singles wins in straight-sets to seal the match. Muller defeated Pham 6-2, 6-2 at the top spot while Audrey Wingo posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Pettersson at No.5. Wise then defeated Tilley 6-2, 6-3 at No.6 and Yuka Otaka needed three sets to defeat Davenport, 6-2, 3-6, (10-2), with a super tiebreaker played for the third set.
Nevada picked up its two victories when Bouchlaka defeated Mok 6-2, 3-6, (10-8) at the No.2 spot and Velez rallied for the 6-7, 6-2, (10-4) win at No.3.
"There were some close matches but we were able to pull this one out," said Aggie assistant coach Sara Morenc. "We have had some close matches against Division I opponents up to this point and I think this win today will give us confidence against the tougher schools still to come on our schedule."
UC Davis will next be in action on Wednesday when it hosts San Francisco State at Hickey Courts. Matchtime is set for 1:30 p.m.
