DAVIS, Calif. - UC San Diego captured five of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over UC Davis in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's tennis match Sunday afternoon at Hickey Courts.
With the loss the Aggies even their record at 4-4 on the season, 2-2 in CCAA play.
UC Davis opened the day by winning two of the three doubles points. Ally Muller and Gretchen Schantz earned an 8-3 win at No.2 over the Triton duo of Jasmin Dao and Tara Siddiqui. At No.3, Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig gave UC Davis the early lead with an 8-4 win over Kristina Jansen and Allison Ishii.
In singles play UC San Diego won four of the six matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. UC Davis won at No.5 when Fong defeated Marissa Hilker, 6-4, 6-2, giving the Aggies their third point. At No.4 Schantz pushed Jansen to a third-set, but could not come away with the win.
"San Diego was too good today," said Aggie Head Coach Bill Maze. "We are playing some very good doubles and need to work on our singles play, and we look forward to doing that."
UC Davis continues its seven-match homestand when it hosts UC Santa Barbara on Friday. Matchtime is set for 1:30pm at Hickey Courts.
